COMMUNITY CLASS WITH ALICIA LINZ & NINA CONRAD

LEATHER – IT’S NOT ALL BLACK AND WHITE

In the fashion industry, trends and prices determine how products are designed and brought to market. Supply chains are long and opaque, and production takes place at the expense of people and the planet. The production of leather is also repeatedly subject to criticism. Global supply chains that lack transparency, the use of harmful chemicals in tanning and critical working conditions are just a few reasons.

But there is an alternative: Leather can be produced in a transparent, local and ethical way without the use of toxic chemicals.  In their community class, Alicia and Nina show how they have built a network of farmers, meat producers and the ecological hunting association in Switzerland and Germany to produce regional leather.

Their label „Regionales Leder“ is the perfect example of a sustainable and sensible product cycle. Alicia Linz’ label „Ecological Huntingleather“ is also part of it.

They will talk about how they produce leather so that it is durable and recyclable at the same time.

Hides are an essential by-product of the local meat and dairy industry. And as long as the consumption of animal products is a fact that cannot be denied, there is nothing more sensible than using the skins of these animals – instead of burning them.
